Miabella Gelato has been a family owned and operated gelateria since they first opened their doors in September 2008. The brother and sister duo, Alan Vail and Brianne Vail-Smith, wanted to celebrate their family’s Italian heritage by bringing this delightful frozen dessert to their community. Studying and training with well known Frozen Dessert Technologist, Luciano Ferrari, they’ve mastered the art of creating gelato and other traditional Italian desserts.
Gelato vs. Ice Cream
Regular ice cream is made with 50% cream and 50% milk and eggs then frozen down to a solid for a few days. This process then traps another 50% air into the ice cream. Real gelato is made simply with 80% milk and 20% cream, no eggs added. It is then put in the freezer to set for a short 5-10 minutes. Gelato is never frozen. This setting process gives the gelato that wonderful thick and creamy texture.
